Luton boss Nathan Jones explained his reasoning behind making five changes for last night’s 1-1 draw against Millwall at Kenilworth Road.

Following on from Saturday’s awful 3-0 defeat at Stoke City, Jones opted to bring in deadline day signings Tom Ince and Elijah Adebayo for their first starts, along with Joe Morrell, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Kal Naismith.

Out went top scorer James Collins, plus Glen Rea, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu, James Bree and Harry Cornick to the bench, as when asked about the numerous alterations, Jones said: “Saturday wasn’t us, so we had to go back to a bit of default, but it wasn’t just about making changes.

“A few are tired, people have played a lot of games, Collo, Pelly-Ruddock, have played lots and lots of games.

“So to bring them out it wasn’t like ‘you’ve been poor, you weren't good enough,’ everyone wasn't good enough on the day, there’s no-one who can come out of it with real credit.

“But at times you've just got to freshen it up, it’s a difficult, difficult league and that's what it is.

“Yes, I was bitterly disappointed with the performance but we got a better performance tonight, it's just a shame we didn't get three points.

"“The performance was positive, we made a lot of changes, it was chalk and cheese from the ineptitude that we showed on Saturday so at least we had a reaction from them.”
