Luton chief Graeme Jones insists he is ready for whatever scenario the EFL settle on regarding just how the Hatters are going to finish the Championship season.

With the campaign suspended last week due to the coronavirus outbreak, it means Town are currently without a game until they are due to host Reading on Saturday, April 4.

However, that looks increasingly likely to change in the coming days , with the EFL meeting again later this week to decide just if, how and when they can conclude the season.

There have been rumours of playing the remaining games during the summer, although declaring the campaign void could also be an option depending on the severity of the virus.

Jones said: “My opinion will count for nothing, as it’s with the governing bodies, it’s with people in more powerful positions than the one I hold.

“The the rest of the EFL and the Premier League, they’ll make decisions.

“We’re ready for both scenarios, in terms of if, for example, we have to play behind closed doors, we’re ready to fight our corner and stay in this Championship at all costs.

“We have been for a while and then if it’s taken out of our hands in terms of the best cause of action, I think that’s more of a question for Gary Sweet (chief executive) than myself.

“I’m a football manager looking after my players for any kind of scenario that comes our way, including the virus.

“Making their immune system, through nutrition and through training, as strong as they can be.

“If we play on the fourth of April, then we’ve had good preparation towards it, making sure we keep people fit.

“At this minute in time, we’re ready for whatever comes our way and if we have to play, we’re ready to play, that’s all we can do, prepare that way.

“At this minute in time, we’ve got a game on the fourth of April, so it’s business as usual.

"We’ll have to wait and see (if there's a delay), that’s a question for Gary and the authorities and the chief executives and the governing bodies, even government level.

"It might even get to that point."

Ending the season with the teams finishing in their current league positions would see Luton relegated, as they sit second bottom of the table with nine matches left.

Jones feels that before the league was suspended, Town had everything going in their favour to stay up, adding: “I know six points we have to make up, we feel like we can.

“If you look at the form guide, we’re right up there, you’re talking about three wins, two draws and one defeat in our last six.

“Four wins, two draws and three defeats in our last nine, if we repeat that between now and the end of the season we’ll be safe.

"So current form suggests that we’re going to do it, not based on an opinion, based on facts.

“We’re ready for that if we need to go down that route, as a club, that’s why we’ve been in training.

"I’m getting updates from Gary and the club every single day, so it's just one day at a time at the minute.”
