Luton boss Nathan Jones is confident that midfielder Glen Rea will continue to a ‘big player’ for the Hatters after making him captain for the Championship clash against Preston North End last week.

With Sonny Bradley only fit enough for the bench, the 25-year-old took the armband for the game, ahead of striker James Collins, who had been skipper in Bradley’s absence under previous manager Graeme Jones.

Rea, who arrived from Brighton permanently in the summer of 2016 and has racked up 149 appearances since, carried out the duties at times during Jones’ first spell as manager which ended in January 2019.

He is out of contract this summer, but on his captaincy credentials and keeping hold of him next term, Jones said:“Glen has never let me down with the way he plays and the discipline he plays with.

"We have got a number of players that you could rely on to be captain material, how they are in the changing room, the respect they have around the group and Glen is one of those.

"It was just a choice, he’s a big player for us and he will be a big player for us.

“He has all the attributes for it, he’s a bit dopey at times but that’s about it!”
