Luton boss Nathan Jones revealed he wasn’t allowed to pick midfielder Glen Rea for this afternoon’s 1-0 derby defeat at Watford because of protocol regarding his injury.

Rea had come off at half time in the 2-1 win over Derby last weekend, complaining of feeling light headed, meaning he missed the Carabao Cup third round loss to Manchester United in midweek.

He wasn’t named in the match-day squad to face the Hornets, joined on the absentee list by full back James Bree, who suffered a knee problem against the Rams.

Ryan Tunnicliffe took Rea's place in the starting 11, but wasn't to replicate his impressive display produced against the Red Devils on Tuesday night, as Jones said: “We’ve lost one or two this week in terms of Glen Rea and James Bree.

“It’s just protocol really, so we just can’t play him (Rea), because of that.

“He’s back training on Monday and we can go from there, but disappointed really as he's a big player for us.

“James Bree also when you need athleticism and need to be front-footed, he’s one of those players, and we've missed that."
