Jones: There's no point fearing Bluebirds striker Kieffer Moore

Town boss Nathan Jones doesn't expect his side to go into today’s contest against former Premier League side Cardiff City with any fear whatsoever.

The Hatters come up against a Bluebirds team who have struggled for form in the early stages of the season, nowhere near mounting the play-off challenge expected of them.

City manager Neil Harris does still have striker Kieffer Moore in his ranks though, the £2m summer signing from Wigan Athletic with four goals to his name so far, although it has been on international duty Wales where he has really caught the eye, scoring in both the Nations League wins over Finland.

However, for Jones it will be no different from a regular week in the Championship, as he said: “If we have fear when we come up against a good player then we’re going to be fearful all season, because every team has got someone that can really, really hurt you.

“That's the Championship, with the budgets, with the level of player, so we've got to make sure that we're at it week in week out and we have been and are getting better.

“You look at Lukas Jutkiewicz (Birmingham striker) and he’s as tough as there is to come up against in the box, Kieffer Moore is exactly the same.

“Cardiff were in the play-offs last year, but it’s week in week out, this is the challenges we want.

“Then we play Norwich here, then we go to Swansea, they come big, big games, but that's we wanted, that’s what we desired when we set out on this journey.

"Right now we’re in a good place, so we’ll go to Cardiff in good form.”

Bluebirds boss Harris pulled off an impressive transfer coup in the summer by enticing highly-rated Liverpool younger Harry Wilson, another Welsh international, to join on a season-long loan move.

He also brought in Anfield team-mate Sheyi Ojo to join an expensively-assembled squad that the City chief has at his disposal, something that wasn't lost on Jones, who added: “They’ve paid a lot of money for a lot of players there.

"The boy Gladzo (Robert Glatzel), Kieffer Moore, Junior Hoilett, the boy (Josh) Murphy, Harry Wilson, Marlon Pack, they’ve got plenty of quality there that they’ve paid money for, so there’s no point me singling some out.

“Structurally we’ll have to be good, tactically, we’ll have to be good and we were the other day.

"We came up against a real good threat, in terms of a front pair, as Jutkiewicz is like Kieffer Moore, in terms of what they do, and he’s very good at what he does.

“Scott Hogan is a perfect foil for a big man, so we know that if Cardiff play two up top, we’re well honed in combating that, so we’ve just got to be tactically ready.

“Week in, week out, we’re coming up against different threats, but they’re all proper threats and that’s the beauty of the Championship.”
