Galloway needs first team football to prove he has a future at Kenilworth Road

Luton boss Nathan Jones will look to loan out defender Brendan Galloway during the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old, who has 17 Premier League appearances under his belt for Everton, made his comeback from over 12 months out with a ruptured patella injury on Saturday during the FA Cup third round win over Reading.

Since arriving at Kenilworth Road on a free transfer, Galloway has made just six appearances, with only three of them starts.

After moving to Goodison Park from MK Dons in August 2014 and representing England at U17 to U21 level, injuries have restricted the Harare-born defender to 30 league appearances in total, with stints at both West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland too.

Now with his contract up in the summer, Jones feels a temporary move away is what Galloway needs to prove he has a future with the Hatters, saying: "Brendan needs a loan, Brendan does need a loan, he’s not played a lot of football in recent seasons and he needs that.

"Through no fault of his own he got injured here and the old manager (Graeme Jones) brought them here and fully expected to use him.

"When he got injured, it’s very unfortunate, but he’s worked so hard to get back, he’s a real good lad around the place.

"I thought he did very well considering the amount of time he’s been out, to play a good Reading side and did very well, I was delighted with him.

"But I think he needs a loan now as there will be decisions to be made come the end of the season and he wants to be in the best position possible."

Team-mate George Moncur, who was part of the side that defeated Reading at the weekend, added on Galloway's battle back from his time out: "For him, coming back, he's been out with tough injuries and that's a real credit to him for the way hes played."
