Former Luton midfielder Keith Keane believes the Hatters can stay in the Championship this term, providing they make the most of their remaining home games, starting against Preston North End this weekend.

Town go into the match against another of Keane’s old clubs second bottom and six points from safety, but on a three game unbeaten run.

On the weekend’s fixture, Keane, who played 285 times for Luton, scoring eight goals, said: “Every game is a massive one now, there’s still a lot of points to play for, anything can happen.

“Teams at the bottom, they’re winning and losing, so every game is as important as the next.

“It’s going to be a tough game against Preston, they’re doing well and fighting to be in the play-offs, so they’re a good side.

“But they’re (Luton) at home, so you’ve got to use the home advantage.

“They drew at the weekend away to Wigan, it wasn’t the worst result away, especially, if you can make your home games count.

“If you win your home games and draw away, I’m sure they’ll be fine, but you try and make the most of your home games.

“They’re very, very important, so hopefully they can use being at home on Saturday to their advantage and get the three points.”

After Preston’s visit and Luton have gone to Swansea City and Leeds United, Town play four of their final six games in front of the Kenilworth Road fans.

Keane continued: “They’ve always been a 12th man, they’re desperate to see Luton do well, so they always try and get behind you.

“If you get them going or give them something to cheer about, then they will back you, it’s just you’ve got to give them something to cheer about .

“Then you can really feel that they’re behind you and use them as a 12th man.”

Visiting side Preston, for whom Keane spent three years with, making 77 appearances, still occupy the final play-off place despite three straight defeats.

The ex-Lilywhite feels it might be the right time to come up against them, adding: “They were on a great run before Christmas, but at the minute, they just seem to be on a little bit of a slump.

“It could be the perfect time to play them, it’s away from home, if Luton try and put the pressure on them, get in their faces you don’t know what can happen.

“I think Luton might win, it could be a 2-1, as I think both teams will score and then Luton might nick it at the end.

"That's football for you, so hopefully if they are having a bit of a slump, Luton can take full advantage of that."
