HATTERS: Keeper Kevin Pilkington looks like he will be given the chance to stake his claim for the number one jersey after his inclusion between the posts at Cambridge on Saturday.

The 37-year-old had excelled in the FA Cup win over Northampton, but it was presumed that Mark Tyler would come back in for the trip to the Abbey Stadium. But it was Pilkington who kept his place and gave another commanding performance, as he looked especially competent at dealing with the crosses that were flying across his goal.

Manager Gary Brabin said: “I keep telling the lads I want competition for places and they’ve got to warrant that. I thought Kevin Pilkington came in and was fantastic last week against Northampton. He’s a good keeper and I’m lucky enough to have good competition between them.

“If Kevin gets his opportunity I’m sure he will grab it with both hands. He was in a position to keep his place and I felt he deserved that after Saturday.”
