Lawless and Guttridge could feature against Robins but Rooney requires surgery

Hatters midfielder duo Alex Lawless and Luke Guttridge could be in line for a return to the bench at Cheltenham this weekend.

Lawless hasn’t featured since October 25 after breaking his foot against Northampton, while Guttridge has missed the last 10 games due to a recurrence of his troublesome metatarsal injury.

Boss John Still said: “Lawless and Guttridge will both be with us on Saturday.

“Whether we include them on the bench I don’t know, we might want to give them another week.

“There’s a chance they could be on the bench, they’ve trained this week, but lets see how they are tomorrow.

“Because they’ve trained, they might be more tired than the rest of the boys. Certainly next weekend I think they would be there or thereabouts with the squad on a match day.”

On the boost that the pair would hand to the squad, Still continued: “It’s going to give us some options and going to give us different qualities.

“Gutts, although he plays the same position as Drury, he’s a different player, so there’s an option to have a change there.

“Lawless can play wide left, he can play wide right, he can drift off the line. Shaun (Whalley) will get it and run at you, try and twist and turn you and get the ball in there, while Jake (Howells) hasn’t got the pace of Shaun, but he works the ball well.

“Lawless can go past you, can join in and play, open the game up with his passing, so it’s another different option and I think we’ve missed options in our game, in the attacking areas.”

There was more good news regarding Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Scott Griffiths too as Still said: “Pelly will train next week, while Scott still has a groin problem, but he’s all right at the moment.

“We’re monitoring that daily, but it’s all right.”

However, Luke Rooney now faces a spell on the sidelines as Still added: “Luke is going to have a hernia (operation) done on Monday so that will exclude him.

“Roons has done well, but it fits in really with Lawless and Gutts being in and around it and lessens that with us.”
