Lawless could return for Daggers clash

The Welshman missed Saturday’s trip to Hartlepool on Saturday after starting and scoring against Southend United the previous weekend.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning, Luton boss John Still said: “Alex Lawless is training today. It was nothing to do with the injuries he’s had, it was the other leg where he just felt quite tired, so we had time to address that.”

Apart from Lawless, Still thinks the rest of the squad will remain the same, as he is in a position where he doesn’t have to rush his players back.

He continued: “Everyone’s fine, the injuries are getting better.

“Jake Howells is training, he’s not quite right, but training. Paul Benson came on Saturday and looked a little bit more like Paul Benson, so he’s got over his problems.

“Curtley Williams is training, he’s not going to get involved yet, Paul Connolly is training as well. It gives me an opportunity to build fitness levels up as we’re not having to push people at the moment, we can take our time a touch more, so we look in decent shape.”

A win could put Town second in the table if other results go their way, and Still admitted they had possibly surpassed his own expectations so far.

On how the division is taking shape, he added: “You always get clubs you think might have done a bit better and clubs you think might not have done as well as they have.

“But whoever you are and wherever you are, over the course of the distance, the cream rises to the top.

“The best team in this league is going to win it, whoever that may be and worst team goes down.

“How we started was much the same as last year. Gradually we got to where we are now and I’m pleased with our form, pleased with our performances.

“They’ve been good because to be successful you’ve got to win on different pitches, different conditions, different opponents and it’s not easy.

“The one or two new ones who have come in have settled really well, I’m pleased with the young ones, Ricky (Miller) did well on Saturday, Jim (Stevenson) got his first goal.

“The loan player’s come in and settled down well, but this is football and sometimes things trip you up and you’ve got to be prepared for that.

“At the moment, I can look at it and go, I’m quite happy with where we are. Did I expect to be where we are? I thought we’d do okay, I really did.

“And we might be in a slightly better position than we thought we might be, but I thought we’d be improving.”
