Lawless made his comeback from a broken foot during Town’s 1-1 draw with Cheltenham on Saturday, while Luke Guttridge could be on the bench against Cambridge this weekend after playing 90 minutes against Stotfold on Tuesday night.

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu is back in training too and when asked how much the three of them would boost the squad, he said: “A lot, as my opinion of those two is very high and I think the other lads have definitely got a similar opinion.

“It’s a lift and a few of the lads responded really well to me coming back.

“They genuinely look happy and when you see that you just want to work harder and help your team-mates.”

Winger Shaun Whalley also felt Lawless’ return will benefit the team as he added: “He’s massive, everyone knows what Alex is like,.

“He’s a really good player and it was good to see him come on.”
