Lawless is confident he can force his way back in at Luton

Hatters midfielder Alex Lawless remains confident his ability will see him become a regular in the Hatters side once more this season.

The 30-year-old hadn’t featured in any of Town’s opening four matches, until he came on for the final 22 minutes of the 3-2 defeat against Yeovil on Saturday.

With boss John Still making 12 signings this summer, including some big name additions, Lawless knew it would be tough to nail down a place, but retains the belief he can do so.

He said: “I think you’re fully aware that it’s going to be difficult to get in the team when you see that (new signings).

“But I’m confident in my own ability to think I’m going to play regardless of who comes in.

“It’s only good for the squad when there’s competition for places, that didn’t bother me. Not being picked is hard but you’ve got to keep believing in yourself, that’s what I’ll do.

“I want to play regularly and win games for Luton Town, that’s the main thing.”

After a season blighted by injury last term, it’s made Lawless’ absence from the first team this time around doubly difficult to take.

However, despite not featuring anywhere near as much as he’d like, he won’t be banging on Still’s door just yet.

Lawless continued: “These days people can be whinging, but you’ve just got to get on with it, work hard and show why you should be in there.

“That’s what I’ll do and then hopefully I’ll get picked.”
