Lawless looking for revenge at Crawley

Midfielder Alex Lawless is looking forward to exacting some instant revenge on Crawley Town when Luton travel to their League Two rivals in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Town lost 2-1 at the Red Devils just under three weeks ago when after leading at the break, a second half display labelled their ‘worst of the season’ by boss John Still, saw the hosts triumph.

Ahead of the first round clash, the Welshman said: “For sure, things like that when you’re a player, they stick with you.

“Although I didn’t play, I know you’re all a team and you don’t like to see that happen.

“We weren’t happy with the performance at Crawley a few weeks ago.

“It’s quite a nice opportunity to kind of go and get them back for it and a quick chance to go somewhere we’ve just been and try to put it right.”

It was the same for defender Scott Griffiths too as although he wasn’t involved at the Checkatrade.com Stadium, he knew how disappointing the display had been.

The full back continued: “I watched from the stand and it didn’t look pretty to be fair, it wasn’t a fantastic game.

“I thought we could have taken more from the game than we did, but we’ve got to go back and try to put things right.”

Luton have enjoyed some real success in the FA Cup during recent seasons, most notably in the 2012-13 campaign when they knocked out Premier League Norwich City, winning 1-0 at Carrow Road.

Lawless was part of the side that day and wants to start another run this term as he added: “It’s the type of competition that everyone loves playing in.

“I’m one of those who knows there are rewards when you get through to the later rounds.

“If we can get ourselves through in the cup, we can use those games to build more confidence, get good results and get some momentum.”

“It’s a nice opportunity to try and get ourselves in the hat.”
