Hatters attacker Elliot Lee insists that manager Nathan Jones is a 'different person' since returning to the club recently.

The former Town chief had been in charge at Kenilworth Road for three years from January 2016, before controversially moving to Stoke City.

However, his Potters’ reign ended after just eight months, before he came back to Luton to replace Graeme Jones, who had his contract terminated during the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Since the Championship restarted, Jones has masterminded an impressive five points from three games, including a brilliant 1-0 win at Swansea and battling 1-1 draw with leaders Leeds on Tuesday night.

On how Jones has been since returning, Lee, who signed for Town permanently under Jones in July 2017, said: “I think he is a different person.

“He went through a lot at his previous club.

"He’s learnt a lot and the thing with the gaffer is he always brings a positive atmosphere and drives people every day.

"As long as you’re training and working hard you’ll always have a chance and the biggest thing he’s brought is a positive atmosphere.

“He’s learnt a lot from his time at Stoke and brought that back.

"The boys were so happy he came back and it’s been a real positive for the club.

"His team talk today (Saturday) was full of energy and motivation, that all starts from him.

"We’re going to need as much energy and positivity as possible and that comes from the gaffer.

"He believes we are good enough to be in this league.”

Lee was immediate back on the bench for the first game with Preston, before earning a first league start since the opening day of the campaign during the victory in Wales on Saturday

The ex-West Ham youngster played in a different role, on the left of an attacking three behind James Collins, but was more than happy to perform those duties.

He continued: "I can play up top, as a 10 and from the left.

"When you’ve been out of it as long as I have it’s just great to be a part of it.

"I’ll play left back if I have to, I just want to give my all for this club, for the manager and for the boys, hopefully it’s enough to stay up.

“It’s (the system) definitely something we worked on in the week.

"It wasn’t our usual diamond formation under the gaffer, but it’s another string to our bow and we can play this one as well.

"We’ve done lots of work on it in training, we’ve got a great atmosphere in there, it’s great to be a part of, and all credit to the gaffer for bringing that back.

“I thought we were fantastic in every area.

"We said at half time we felt very comfortable and in control of the game.

"They created very few chances and it was just about getting the first goal and keeping the clean sheet.

"It was a great ball by Izzy (Brown) and a great header from Collo. It’s a brilliant three points from the boys.”

With just six games to go, starting at home to Reading this afternoon, Lee remains confident Town can remain a Championship side this term, making up the four points to safety, adding: “Yes, we’re not going to go down without a fight.

"We’re confident we can get enough points to stay up “
