Lee determined to help Hatters out of their slump

Luton’s 1-0 defeat at Newport County on Tuesday evening was their fourth straight defeat and a sixth loss in seven, which was seen them fall 10 points behind a top three berth.

They remain in the play-offs, just, as Lee said: “It’s not great, but all the lads are sticking together.

“It was another result we didn’t want and I don’t think we deserved, but that’s the way it’s going at the minute.

“The gaffer said after the game we can’t just keep putting in great second half performances, it’s not good enough.

“We need to really come out the blocks sharp as we all know we’re good enough, we’re just not playing to the best of our ability.

“I’m sure it will change very soon as we’re all working hard to change it.

“They know they’re good enough to go up, know they’re good enough to get promoted and we’re going to turn it around and going to get those wins back.

“The team is very optimistic, very ambitious.

“We know if we get one win, they’ll all come like dominoes, so we just need to get that one win.”

Lee himself was unluckier than most in Wales, as he sent one effort against the post, before being denied by an instinctive reaction save from Exiles keeper Joe Day.

He continued: “One thing I’ve learned as a striker over my few years of playing football, sometimes you get nights like that.

“I’ve hit the post, had one cleared off the line, Wilko’s (Luke Wilkinson) hit the post.

“I just think it’s the way its going for us and hopefully our fortunes will change soon.

“Another night that hits the post and goes in, another night the keeper doesn’t pull off that great save, but as a striker I’ll keep confident in my ability and I know I’ll score goals.”

Lee had been happy with his own display though, completing his first 90 minutes in the league since November 2013. He said: “It was great to be back in the starting 11 and my first 90 minutes since injury. On a personal level I’m very happy with how I played.

“It would have been nice to top it off with a goal, but team performance is all that matters.

“We haven’t got three points or a point, so we’re all going home disappointed.”
