The 20-year-old has made six appearances for Hatters since joining from the Premier League side, scoring three times, including a brace in Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat against Wycombe Wanderers.

Speaking before the deal was announced, Lee said: “I feel not quite 100 per cent sharpness, but every game I play I’m getting fitter, I’m getting stronger and getting back to my best now.

“There’s nothing better than playing this kind of football. It’s better than 21s, better than sitting on the bench, so I’m really happy to be here and really enjoying my loan spell at Luton.”

Manager John Still told the club’s official website: “Elliot’s been fantastic for us since joining and we’re thrilled we’ll have him for the rest of this season.

“He was superb against Wycombe and was dreadfully unlucky against Newport. He’s getting fitter all the time and I think that sharpness has been there for all to see in our past two matches.”

Although West Ham have the right to recall Lee with 24 hours notice during this time, the striker added: “I’ve enjoyed my short time with the club, the lads and the fans are fantastic. Our goal is to win promotion and that’s what I want to help us achieve between now and the end of the season.”
