On-loan Luton midfielder confident he can follow in Leicester team-mate's footsteps and be a hit in the Premier League for Foxes

Town's on-loan midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is aiming to follow in the footsteps of his Leicester City team-mate Harvey Barnes and break into the first team reckoning at the King Power Stadium.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks at the Foxes before having spells with MK Dons in League One, going on to impress at both Barnsley and then West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.

He finished the 2018-19 season in the Leicester first team, making a number of Premier League appearances, before playing 42 times for the Foxes last season,

Barnes has now broken fully into Brendan Rodgers’ plans, scoring eight goals in 22 matches this term and won his first full England cap during the 3-0 win over Wales in October.

Dewsbury-Hall himself is already on a similar path to the attacker with a successful loan deal at Blackpool in League One last term, then moving to the second tier in October, producing a string of top-drawer displays for the Hatters, scoring the winner in last night's 2-1 win over Bristol City.

On his future plans, the youngster said: “I’ve seen what Harvey did, going through the loan system and going up the leagues.

"He made a real impact and now everyone can see what he’s doing in the Premier League, so that’s a big aim for me, and I’d like to see that I could follow in the same footsteps he’s gone.

“I went to Blackpool and now I’m coming to Luton and I’m really enjoying myself here.

"It’s a great club in a fantastic league and I think we’re really performing well in the league.

“I have spoken to a couple of the lads (at Leicester), they’re really supportive and they’ve told me what it was like for them going out on loan.

“I’ve spoken to Harvey, he said it was a different environment, but that he grasped it with both hands and that’s what I'm doing.

“I'm learning a lot that I maybe wouldn't learn at Leicester, so it's adding more things to my artillery which is only going to make me a better player going into the future.

“I’d consider Leicester are probably a top six team now in the Premier League, but I've got a lot of faith in my ability as well so I just need to keep doing well on the pitch now whatever club that may be at.

“Hopefully I get an opportunity, but I'll just take it game by game here at Luton."

When asked whether he had held discussions with Rodgers and the Foxes backroom staff about his excellent performances at Luton, Dewsbury-Hall continued: “Yes, bits and bobs and we have a loan guy as well that I talk to a lot.

"We always talk about the game, it’s nice to keep in contact, but I’m just concentrating game by game here at Luton and talking to the Luton staff.

"They're helping me with my game as well, so I’m learning a lot here at Luton as well as I am at Leicester.

"It’s just making me an all-round better player going back for the future.”

Dewsbury-Hall had won a plethora of man-of-the-match awards prior to last night's victory against the Robins, further adding to the trophy cabinet with yet another superb performance.

The midfielder always had confidence he had the ability to be a hit in the Championship, adding: "I’m a player that has a lot of belief in myself.

“I believe that I can do really well and I came in knowing that I wanted to make an impact and make a name for myself in this tough league, so that was my aim to come here and do as well as possible.

“It’s nice that I’ve come in and played a lot of games and really shown what I’m capable of.

"There’s still a long time to go until the end of the season, so I can keep improving and just really stamp a name and make an impact for the team.”
