Town winger Carlos Mendes Gomes scored the winner as Fleetwood Town made history in the FA Cup by reaching the last 16 for the first time in their history when beating Championship side Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Hide AdAfter a goalless first half, Mendes Gomes opened the scoring with an hour gone, looping his header from Phoenix Patterson’s free kick into the net.
The attacker went off with 15 minutes to go, but chances were at a premium late on, as the Cod Army went through to visit Championship side Burnley in the last 16.
Writing on Twitter afterwards, he said: “Let’s “griddy” to the 5th ROUND !!
"Magic of the FA cup @ftfc we keep making HISTORY !!”

Hide AdMendes Gomes also came off the bench at the weekend as Fleetwood lost 3-2 at home to Burton Albion in League One, ex-Luton forward Jayden Stockley scoring on his debut for the hosts.
Goalkeeper Matt Macey started as Portsmouth were denied by a late equaliser, drawing 1-1 in their League One clash against Barnsley at Fratton Park, Town team-mate Harry Isted an unused sub for the visitors.
Macey tipped Adam Phillips’ cross-shot on to the bar in the first half, and then came out well to smother from Devante Cole, before Pompey took the lead four minutes after the break through Colby Bishop.

Hide AdThe Town stopper was beaten when Cole looked to have scored, but referee Andy Woolmer had already blown for a foul by ex-Hatter Joe Morrell, with the goal controversially disallowed.
The Tykes weren't to be denied though, Bobby Thomas flicking a long throw home in the closing stages.
