Longden sees red as Town U18s beaten by Stevenage

TEN-MAN Luton U18s went down to a 3-1 defeat at Stevenage in their Puma Youth Alliance South East Division clash on Tuesday morning.

Town had taken the lead through Jerome Jibodu’s first-half penalty after the defender had been fouled in the area.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men though when Hatters defender Brett Longden was sent off after a coming together with an opponent.

The scores were level on 69 minutes before Stevenage netted a spot-kick of their own to move in 2-1 front with five minutes remaining.

Town threw men forward in search of an equaliser, but were caught on the break in the closing stages to concede once more.

Boss Paul Driver said: “Conditions were difficult as with a lack of rain the pitch was very hard and the wind blowing from corner to corner made it tough to play our football.

“That being said, we need to learn to do the ugly things at times and can’t just keep trying to play our football when it’s like that.
