Hatters’ game-changer Kazenga LuaLua was in complete agreement with manager Nathan Jones that Luton possess one of the best benches in the Championship.

The Town boss made the claim ahead of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Hull City, and it was further strengthened by the manner of his side's triumph at the KCOM Stadium.

With 20 minutes remaining and the scores goalless, LuaLua, Danny Hylton and then George Moncur were all introduced in a bid to drive home the visitors' clear domination.

They did just that too, Hylton back to his usual self when causing the home defence all sorts of problems, going close twice himself, while Moncur should have put Luton in front after good work from LuaLua, shooting straight at keeper Matt Ingram.

However, it was LuaLua who was to be the star turn, dancing his way around his Tigers markers on more than one occasion, as he set off on a run from just inside opposition territory and then arrowed home one of the most important goals in Town’s recent history from 25 yards with just five minutes to go.

When asked about the thoughts of his manager regarding the strength in depth available to him, LuaLua said. “To be honest, I totally agree with him.

"There’s a lot of people on the bench, you can say Danny Hylton, George, me, Callum McManaman, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Jacob Butterfield, there’s many, many there who have been playing at this league for a long time.

"They’re experienced players as well, so I do think that we have a good bench in the Championship, I definitely would agree with that.”

Meanwhile, Jones himself praised the mentality of those who had been selected in the match-day squad, adding: "When I say about the best subs, it’s not just the most talented, we have so much desire to come off the bench and impact.

"A lot of them believe they should be playing and quite rightly so, but just the desire to come off the bench and to do it, to go again, we’ve always that at this club.

"To take the game away from someone, or to get it back, whatever it’s been and today they showed that.

“The subs have impacted for me every single game and I’m delighted with them."
