Luton Town have confirmed the appointment of Nathan Jones as manager for a second spell in charge at Kenilworth Road on a long term contract.

The Welshman, who turns 47 today, is back at Kenilworth Road after leaving to join Stoke City 16 months ago, with Mick Harford as his assistant.

Jones, who was with Luton as a player in the mid-1990s, before taking over in in January 2016, was The Brache this morning to meet the first two small groups of senior players ahead of the opening training session of the day.

He will take charge of the final nine games of the Championship campaign when the season starts up again, with Town sitting second bottom and six points from safety.

The former Brighton coach, who left the bet365 Stadium in November, had led the Hatters to promotion from League Two and second place in League One when he departed in January 2019.

Town CEO Gary Sweet said: “My job is to make sure the club can escape the severe economic impact of the virus and whatever decisions we make now, it is the club that must be put first.

“We must do everything we possibly can to stay in the Championship this season. We have just nine games left to climb out of the relegation zone and the squad has to be more than ready.

“We need a manager who can hit the ground sprinting – someone who knows us, our players and our environment and someone who knows the league.

“There’s only one man who has those characteristics and that’s Nathan Jones.

"And there’s only one person who should be assisting him at this time – and that’s Mick Harford.“
