Town chief Nathan Jones believes that Oxford United have got themselves ‘marquee’ signing for League One with the addition of Hatters attacker Elliot Lee.

The 26-year-old moved on loan to the Kassam Stadium for the remainder of the season on deadline day after wanting more first team football, having not featured in the Championship for Luton since the 2-0 defeat at Swansea City on December 5.

Jones who signed Lee permanently from Barnsley in the summer of 2017 and handed the ex-West Ham forward a new deal in the summer after bringing him back in from the cold under previous boss Graeme Jones, said: “I didn’t want Elliot to go, but there’s such a competitive group here now that he was getting frustrated.

“He wants to play, he works hard, he has real quality, he feels he should play and when he has played, he’s done well for me to be fair, so he’s unfortunate really.

“We wish him all the best, Oxford have got a real goodun, as there were a few in for him, but at League One level he’s a marquee player, without a shadow of a doubt.

“Played in the right way, played in his right position, he’s a marquee position in League One.”
