Luton boss: It's a 'disgrace' that Championship finale hasn't been resolved by EFL

Luton boss Nathan Jones believes it is a ‘disgrace’ that the Championship finale tomorrow evening has got to the stage where it could well reach a conclusion in the courtroom rather than on the football pitch.

Going into the last game of the season, Wigan Athletic are due to be docked 12 points for entering administration, which will be handed down once their home match with Fulham has finished.

The Latics, currently 10 points above Town, have appealed the case though, with a final decision due to be made by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, mid-table sides Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County were also been hit by misconduct charges by the EFL earlier in the season.

That could see the pair face hefty points deductions, taking them into the relegation fight, although they would still have a lengthy appeal process to go through too.

Ahead of Wednesday's deciders, Luton are third from bottom, but that is technically 21st place, due to Wigan’s impending deduction, with Jones' side still able to catch Charlton Athletic, Birmingham City and Middlesbrough above them.

A win against Blackburn Rovers, coupled with defeats for those three sides, or a draw for Charlton, would ensure Town are safe from the drop, even if there are no points deductions handed out, as speaking to the press, Jones said: “We’ve got to try and win the game, if we win the game it takes everything out of it, so that’s what we’ve got to try and do.

“It seems simple, but that’s all we can do and that’s the only thing we can affect.

“I have no idea what the league or what CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) are going to do, I have no idea, I can’t second guess it.

“It’s a disgrace that it’s not been done already, but I can't second guess that.

"All I can do and I can reiterate this 100 times, all I can affect is my team tomorrow.

“If we win the game tomorrow, I don’t envisage 51 points not being enough for us to be a Championship side next year.

“If I’m wrong then wow, we couldn’t have done any more, so all I’m concentrating on is going to win the game.

“Things are clear for us, we win tomorrow, the EFL, CAS, Boris Johnson, they can do whatever they want.

“We have to concentrate tomorrow on winning the game.”
