A buoyant Luton boss Nathan Jones has declared that his side are determined to ‘put their stamp’ on the Championship this season.

The Hatters have made an excellent start to their second campaign at this level, sitting 11th place, four points shy of the play-offs, but more importantly, already 10 points clear of the drop zone.

It is a world away from the precarious predicament that Jones found the club in when took over in May, six points adrift at the bottom, their Championship status hanging by a thread.

He turned it around with a remarkable run of results to achieve safety and has continued that impressive form this term, Luton heading to Cardiff City this afternoon on the back of a four game unbeaten run.

However, Jones isn't about to settle for just surviving in the second tier and believes there is far more improvement to be made, saying: “There’s a lot more to come from this team, not just with the backing (from fans).

"The backing adds that adrenaline and that real spice to it, but we do work constantly because we want to evolve, we want to get better and give them solutions.

“We want to give them confidence and get them in a real good place because we want to evolve.

“If you remember when I first came in, the game against Cambridge, not many remember that game fondly in terms of Luton being a free-flowing, front-footed, excellent football team, but that was the start and we had to educate them to become that.

“After a play-off defeat, we were evolving slightly into that but the next season we really were a wonderful side.

“We had a year of evolving into a wonderful side then we knew that we were ready to really hit League One at a good level and we did.

"We had momentum and we added even more strength and quality. They got confidence and more work and we were the best side in League One.

“So, from getting promotion in League Two, to being the best side in League One, it’s constant work, belief and everything.

“Now, they’ve come up to the Championship, had a season of surviving and establishing ourselves and thinking, ‘this is a nice place to be, this is what we’ve worked at’.

“Now, they are evolving, we don’t just want to get results, we we want to impact and to start putting our stamp on the Championship.

“That’s a bold, bold statement and others may listen to that and think, ‘what are they on about? These should be down the bottom.'

“But it’s about what we want to do, we don’t care about anything else.

"We don’t look outside of the four walls we have here, outside Bedfordshire, for example.

"We want to evolve into what we want to evolve into, and that’s constant work.

“We’ll have to take some punches on the chin and punches on the nose, but we’re going to ride them and come back stronger and stronger because we’ve had a good bit of experience at the level.

"But, now, we want to have more than experience and if we’re evolving at this rate, we’ve got a good future.”
