Luton possess some of the best options available from the substitutes bench in the Championship according to boss Nathan Jones.

The Hatters chief lined up against QPR in midweek with the likes of Callum McManaman, Danny Hylton, Kazenga LuaLua, George Moncur and Jacob Butterfield, to name just five, up his sleeve to bring on if required.

Jones believes that all of his replacements, or game-changers as he likes to call them, are capable of doing just that, saying: “We think we’ve got one of the best benches in the league, when you look at it, we really do.

“You look at our bench and there are options and that’s tough to keep them all happy, because they all believe they should play.

"They all believe they can come on and add something.

"We haven’t got fillers on our bench; we’ve got people that can really impact it.

"There’s probably debates going on about ‘he should probably play, so why is he playing’ and that’s only good.

"What you have to do is keep them motivated so that when they do come on, they actually are game-changers than just token gestures, and we have that.”

With that in mind, Jones reiterated his frustration that he didn't make changes earlier than he had done during the 1-1 draw in midweek.

When he did bring on LuaLua, Hylton and Moncur inside the final 10 minutes, the trio's introductions saw the previously dominant visitors finally pushed back, leading to a great chance at the death created by Hylton's cross, Dan Potts denied by R's keeper Joe Lumley.

Jones added: "We’ve had an impact from a lot of them.

"I said the other day, I should’ve made changes earlier because, never mind how well someone is playing, there’s a certain impetus that you get from a proper game-changer from the bench that we’ve utilised.

“So, sometimes we’ve made changes and people think, ‘hang on, I was playing OK’.

"I understand that but we want that push, that real jump and spike in performance and that’s why we’ve said about using the bench.

"We’ve got that this season. Since I’ve come in, we’ve got that buy-in in from players that want to come on and made an impact."
