Lewis, who has played for England U16s, U17s, U19s and U20s, signed a new long-term contract with the Reds in July 2020 - his second fresh deal in the space of 17 months.

He is now rumoured to be interesting Town chief Nathan Jones by Goal's Liverpool Correspondent Neil Jones, but only once the Premier League champions seal a reported £11.75m deal for Olympiacos left-back Kostas Tsimikas to provide cover for first-choice defender Andy Robertson.

Liverpool had been interested in former Hatters youngster Jamal Lewis, who won the Aarau Masters U11 Championship with Town in 2009, along with the likes of James Justin, before moving to Carrow Road four years later, only to see a £10m bid rejected this week.

The defender's profile on the Liverpool official website states: "A Scouser and boyhood Red, Lewis joined the Academy at U6 level and has progressed through the Kirkby ranks to the U23 side after captaining the U18s under Steven Gerrard in 2017-18.

"The England U20 international, who predominantly plays at left-back, regularly trains with Jürgen Klopp's senior squad at Melwood.

"Lewis was a member of the first team’s USA pre-season tour party last summer and played against the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla."

Town boss Jones will want to up the the competition for Dan Potts at left back this term, as Brendan Galloway only made a handful of appearances before suffering a nasty knee injury in November, which meant James Bree and Martin Cranie had to fill in when required.
