Luton sell experienced Northern Ireland international to Bromley

Saville leaves Kenilworth Road

Luton have announced that experienced midfielder George Saville has joined fellow League One side Bromley for an undisclosed fee.

The 33-year-old had moved to Kenilworth Road last season, going on to play 43 games in all competitions for Town, scoring twice, but only started seven League One fixtures from the turn of the year and hadn’t been included in any of the three match-day squads for the matches with Gillingham, Reading and Notts County. A club statement on the Bromley website said: “We are delighted to announce the signing of experienced midfielder George Saville on a permanent transfer from fellow Sky Bet League One side Luton Town, subject to FA and EFL approval.

“The former Chelsea youngster has spent the majority of his career in the Championship, making his second tier debut in 2012 against Leeds United during a loan spell at Millwall. During his time with the Blues he gained regular League One experience whilst on loan at Brentford. Saville's next permanent move came in 2014 when he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers, playing 50 more times over three seasons in the Championship.

“He joined Bristol City on loan later that year where he'd go on to help his side achieve EFL Trophy glory at the end of the campaign. The midfielder would then return to Millwall during the 2015-16 season before signing for The Lions permanently where he'd go on to net 10 goals from the middle of the park during the 2017/18 season, finishing joint-top scorer in a season that saw Millwall narrowly miss out on the play-offs.

“Middlesbrough would be his next destination in 2018 after a successful loan spell, but it wasn't long before he was back in East London, signing a third time for Millwall, spending a further four seasons in the Championship. Last season was spent at Luton for Saville where he'd come on as a late substitute for the Hatters in their EFL Trophy final win over Stockport County.”

On the Northern Ireland international’s exit, the Hatters added: “We can confirm that midfielder George Saville has joined Bromley on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee. Northern Ireland international Saville, 33, signed for the Hatters in the summer of 2025 as a free agent following his release by Millwall and made 43 appearances last season, scoring twice. We all thank Savs for his efforts in a Luton shirt, including the part he played in our Vertu Trophy success, and wish him all the best for his future career.”
