Luton striker linked with loan move to Eredivisie side Herenveen

Nordas tipped to depart Kenilworth Road

Luton striker Lasse Nordas has been linked with a loan move to Dutch top tier club Heerenveen.

The 23-year-old former Norway U21 international headed to Kenilworth Road in last year’s January transfer window, having only ever played in his home country, with spells at Strommen, Bodo/Glimt and Tromso, scoring nine goals in 28 Eliteserien appearances for the latter, with four assists too, which saw Town pounce for his signature.

He struggled to adapt to life at Kenilworth Road though, making just two starts and playing 10 times overall under previous boss Matt Bloomfield as Town were relegated from the Championship last term, while this year, has been restricted to just four starts in League One and 11 outings, only scoring once.

With Bloomfield sacked in October and Jack Wilshere replacing him, the new Hatters chief has used him sparingly for Town’s third tier campaign, with the forward not involved in any squads over Christmas due to illness, although when he was available, rarely featured, meaning he has been chosen in just four out of a possible 13 match-day 18s, brought on three times, with his appearances limited to the cups.

He has done well in Vertu Trophy though, scoring three goals, including a double during the 4-0 victory over Exeter City recently, but having netted four goals in 17 matches in all competitions, he doesn’t appear to play a part in Wilshere’s long-term plans, despite the manager stating recently he was definitely an option when saying: “I think the Exeter game and the Fleetwood game that he played, okay he was better in the Exeter game, but the Fleetwood game, he gave us something as well.

"When you play with certain players, like if we play with really wide players, Shayden Morris, who can get down the line and stand a ball up then he can really help the team. He’s also improving with his link-up play. You saw when he came on against Port Vale, he was dropping deep and then running back in the box. We spoke about him being more aggressive, I think he is, so he’s definitely someone who’s improving and is in our thoughts.”

With the transfer window open for business, and Wilshere clearly keen to put his own imprint on the squad, it could well be that Nordas is one of the first to depart and join the Abe Lenstra Stadion club who ply their trade in the Eredivisie where they currently sit ninth. Writing for Norway sports outlet TV 2 yesterday, Norwegian journalist Eirik Nesset Hjelvik said: “Lasse Nordås has decided on Sunday that Heerenveen and Dutch football are his preferred destinations. He is thus rejecting Wrexham, among others. The parties are now working to finalize the details of a loan agreement. All parties are positive about a solution.”
