Luton tipped to be closing in on Manchester United starlet

Gore expected to sign on loan for the Hatters

Luton are tipped to be closing in on a deal to bring young Manchester United defensive midfielder Dan Gore to Kenilworth Road on loan.

The 21-year-old started his youth career with Burnley, before moving to Old Trafford at the age of 14 in 2018. Having featured in the Premier League 2, U18s Premier League and also the UEFA Youth League, he was then part of the Red Devils’ 2022 FA Youth Cup-winning side that also contained Alejandro Garnacho, going on to be named the club’s reserve team player of the year in the 2022-23 campaign.

During the season, he made his debut for United’s U21s in their Football League Trophy campaign, playing three times, booked in every outing, as he also featured twice the following year. Gore then had his first senior appearance coming on after an hour in United's 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace, also earning his Premier League debut when brought on for Christian Eriksen in the closing stages of the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

The youngster then headed on loan to Port Vale in January 2024, but injured his quad when making his debut against Portsmouth and didn't play again, also undergoing surgery on a dislocated shoulder. He then moved Rotherham United in January 2025, playing once before suffering a fracture to his foot, leading to an early return to his parent club once more.

However, Gore was back with the Millers in July 2025, signing a season-long loan deal, as he went on to make 41 appearances, with one goal and three assists, booked eight times as well, including both matches against Luton, despite the club’s relegation to League One, impressed sufficiently to win the Player of the Season award at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Gore, who has also been capped by England at U16, U18 and U20 level, is now being reported by the Daily Mail’s Manchester United reporter Nathan Salt to be on his way to Kenilworth Road, as he said: “EXC: Dan Gore is set to join Luton Town on loan. Gore won Rotherham’s Player of the Season award and the 21-year-old has been targeted by Jack Wilshere for Luton’s League One promotion bid.

“Gore under contract at #mufc until 2028. Club pleased with landing spot as opportunity to develop under Wilshere, who played same position. Confidence that Luton can win promotion this season and that Gore can play central role in the side. Well liked by a lot of Carrick’s staff and academy sources indicating Gore’s situation can be revisited next summer after loan move. Basically, all sides are v v happy.”

Hatters boss Jack Wilshere was remaining tight-lipped about any potential deal though, as asked following last night’s Carabao Cup 2-0 defeat at Premier League Chelsea, said: “He was at Rotherham last year, he’s a Man United player, so I won’t get drawn into that.”
