With Luton having just won the Littlewoods Cup by beating Arsenal at Wembley, this was the first home game that followed, meaning Town got to parade the trophy in front of their own fans against their fierce rivals, soon to be relegated out of Division One. With Luton struggling in the new Division One, they were able to climb off the bottom of the table with what was a maiden home win of the campaign at the ninth attempt. A terrific diving header from Ian Benjamin, his first goal for the club, set them on their way, before, on a mud bath of a pitch, Scott Oakes set off on a run from his own half to pick out the bottom corner and seal victory. A bad tempered second tier affair saw the visitors reduced to nine men as both Barry Ashby and Jason Drysdale were sent off. Luton finally ended their long wait to face and beat the Hornets on home soil in this Championship encounter. Late on, Elijah Adebayo won a penalty after being fouled by keeper Daniel Bachmann, as James Collins came off the bench to fire home from the spot with his first touch. Kiko Femenia was sent off for Watford, who then saw Andre Gray's equaliser disallowed, with the only down side being no fans allowed to attend due to Covid restrictions. Photo: Liam Smith
