Luton Town's Championship match against Rotherham United at Kenilworth Road next Tuesday night has been postponed due to a number of the Millers players contracting coronavirus.

The Hatters were due to host their opponents, who are third bottom in the table, but gave themselves a real boost of avoiding relegation with a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

United's game with Brentford this weekend is also off as a statement on the club's official website said: "Rotherham United can confirm that following further confirmation of the results from today’s Covid testing, the decision has been made to postpone Tuesday night’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at Luton Town.

"The latest round of testing – the results of which were returned on Friday - has confirmed that a number of first team players have contracted the virus and will therefore have to complete a period of self-isolation in line with Government guidance.

"The Millers have remained in close contact with the EFL and medical professionals on the matter since learning of the outbreak and it is with their advice taken into consideration that the decision has been reached to postpone the game at Kenilworth Road.

"A new date will be confirmed in due course."

Luton issued a statement adding: "We would like to inform supporters that next Tuesday's Sky Bet Championship fixture with Rotherham United has been postponed after a number of the Yorkshire club's players tested positive for Covid-19.

"The rearranged date for the Kenilworth Road fixture, originally scheduled for FA Cup fourth round weekend in January, will be announced in due course.

"We would like to wish the Rotherham players who have contracted the virus a full and speedy recovery."
