Luton's on-loan Aston Villa full back James Bree drew comparisons to former defender Jack Stacey by Town manager Nathan Jones after his excellent performance during last night's 1-1 draw with Barnsley at Kenilworth Road.

The 25-year-old was going up against his former club on the night, having come through the ranks at Oakwell and then heading to Villa Park for a undisclosed fee described as 'substantial' in January 2017

He has played 28 times for the Villains, but joined Ipswich Town on loan last term, heading to Luton on transfer deadline day in August under previous boss Graeme Jones.

Last night was most definitely his best outing in a Luton shirt though, particularly going forward, as he drew comparisons to Stacey, who Jones had signed from Reading in June 2017, before he made the jump to the Premier League in the summer, snapped up by Bournemough, where he has played 15 top flight games so far.

On Bree, who has a year left on his deal at Villa Park, Jones said: “I thought defensively and moving forward, he was excellent, obviously his best game for me.

"I think he’d be a wonderful player, given time to work with him and he reminds me a lot of Jack Stacey in terms of stature and athleticism.

"It's just about the application and the work he needs that he hasn't had, but he was excellent.”
