The Hatters have made five additions so far, shelling out undisclosed fees to bring in Kasey Palmer and Callum Marshall from Hull City and West Ham United respectively, acquiring George Johnston on a free transfer after he left Bolton, and bringing in Harrison Ashby and Emilio Lawrence on season-long loans.

With clubs in England having until 11pm on Tuesday evening in which to bolster their playing personnel further if they wish, Town boss Jack Wilshere has expressed a desire to continue adding to his squad, and Sweet expects that will happen, along with moving on the likes of Jerry Yates, Teden Mengi, Lasse Nordas, Reuell Walters and Thomas Holmes.

Writing in his programme notes ahead of Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Notts County, he said: “There has naturally been some change within the squad, although perhaps not quite to the extent we have seen in previous summers. Our business isn’t yet done in the market as we enter the last and most manic week of the transfer window.

"Notably, we are keen to find good homes for some of those players who have been unfortunate victims in our change of style of play. However, whilst Jack is happy with the squad as things stand, we will always be on the lookout to take advantage of any befitting opportunities that may improve the squad, or invest in our future if it fits within the new budgetary controls the EFL has rightly introduced for this season.”

Meanwhile, Town's business in the window so far has been rated as an A-grade from Hatters supporters after a poll on the Luton News X account. Asked where they would rank the club's work in the market thus far, 50% went for an A, as 47.6 % opted for a for a B while just 2.4% gave it a C. Discussing why had voted as they did, and what else Town need to do in the window, @NSq18 said: “Think it’s the smartest we’ve been in the transfer market since NJ on his second stint.”

Miles off it striker wise. @elstroppy: 8.5 can’t complain. I hope we’re not too light up front. Be good to move the deadwood on. But that can’t be easy for the club, they’ll want good value.”

@NewportHatter: “Being greedy, would like a big man up top for those cold midweek away days when need someone to hold ball up. If can also offload those still stealing a living (Yates and Co) it’ll be a perfect window.” @paulyoung3007: Good window and signings that have definitely improved our quality and squad depth. Nirvana for me would be a quality left back with pace and a proper target man for plan B.”

@TopHatDaveLT: “Would like another striker, someone up and coming who can hold the ball, good in the air and be physical and who we can develop. Then we can hopefully move Cole onto another club. @AlexNyheim131: “Not sold on our strikers, but time will tell. Ask me again ten matches in.” @Deegswire: “Great window, still wish we got another striker. @SSE_LTFC: Whoever voted C needs to give their head a wobble.”
