Marriott could be fit to face Potters

The Luton striker netted twice as his side beat Bristol City 3-1 in the last round, but didn’t travel to Yeovil Town at the weekend, where Hatters were beaten 3-2.

Still admitted that some changes would be made after Saturday’s defeat, with Nathan Doyle, Dan Potts and Paddy McCourt all expected to be missing.

Still said: “Marriott might be all right and Olly Lee come into contention too now.

“We won’t go crazy with it, but we might just make an adjustment here or there.

“Doyle and Potts are out, probably McCourt too. We put him on the bench on Saturday, brought him on, but he’s still not quite right.”

Potters boss Mark Hughes will also make changes to his team from their 1-1 draw with Norwich City, as record signing Xherdan Shaqiri won’t be involved, but former Barcelona attacker Bojan could feature.

He told the club’s official website: “We’ll change the team. I think it’s important to give players who haven’t been involved some game time but we will still be as strong as we can be.

“The Capital One Cup is a competition we want to do well in this year and we’re not going to put that at risk by putting out a weakened team.

“I will be picking a strong team and a team I expect to win.”

Although Stoke are clear favourites to progress in the tie, Still insists his team can cause a shock, but only if they produce a performance similar to their last round victory over Championship outfit Bristol City.

He added: “Players want to win and when we drew Bristol City, I’m not really sure how many people thought we would beat Bristol City, but we did and scored three very good goals on the way to beating them.

“For me personally, as a manager, I’ve got to set out a team to do what I can to win, even though you might change your team a little bit, like we did against Bristol.

“The focus was on ‘can this team win’ and in my mind it could. Can this team win? Yes it can. We have to be at our absolute maximum and Stoke have to have an off day, I understand that.

“How often does that happen? Premier League teams against Division Two teams? Not that often. But it doesn’t have to happen often, it’s only got to happen once.

“We look forward to it and plan to try and cause an upset.”
