Matchwinner Guttridge: Last few months toughest of my career

Luton match-winner Luke Guttridge admitted the last few months have been some of the toughest in his career to date.

The 32-year-old, who netted a last-gasp strike against Northampton on Saturday, has struggled with a foot injury after breaking a metatarsal towards the end of last season and been restricted to a watching brief on the bench in recent games.

On the effect it’s had on him mentally, an honest Guttridge said: “The gaffer made it known that I’ve been in pain for a lot of the time with my foot.

“It’s always in the back of your mind and you think, is the pain ever going to go away?

“You’re not able to train properly and ask any footballer, if you can’t train flat out, you can’t do the running you’d like to do, then you can’t fulfil your job to the maximum you’d like to.”
