McGeehan demands Hatters show their title aspirations

The 20-year-old, who notched his second goal of the season during Luton’s hugely impressive 1-1 draw with Premier League outfit Stoke City on Tuesday night, before the Potters went through on penalties, has seen Hatters stutter in the league this term.

Town go into the match with fellow promotion favourites Portsmouth on the back of two straight league defeats, but McGeehan believes if his side finally play to their potential, they can be serious title contenders this term.

He said: “The next two or three games against Portsmouth and then Cambridge and Notts County away are going to be three massive teams, three of the best teams in the league.

“If we can perform well and get three wins that can show we can win the league and that’s what we want to do.

“We need to use that level of performance (against Stoke) as a benchmark, kick on, train hard and then come the game on Saturday, produce it again.

“They’re equal favourites for the league with us. We’ve got to match them up and go into the game with belief we’re going to win the game and it will kick start our season as we want to win the league.

“We’ve got a League One, Championship squad so we know we can do well against big teams and we’ve just got to translate that into the league form.

“We’ve got perform to our best levels, our best levels are better than League Two, so we need to put that in every week.”

McGeehan also called on the fans to play their part as they were in fine voice against Stoke on Tuesday night, with a near sell out crowd

expected at Kenilworth Road tomorrow.

He added: “They’re top fans here. We’ve got a First Division, Championship squad and we’ve got a Championship crowd if not pushing on.

“If we get a new stadium, then we’ve got the fanbase for it. They’re an amazing set of fans that are loud every week.

“We had our frustrations as a team and the fans showed their frustrations to the players which is deserved as results and performances haven’t been to the level we should be giving the fans who turn out every week and pay their money.

“So we’ll get the atmosphere buzzing again on Saturday to give us a lift going on and hopefully we can use it as a platform for the remainder of the season.”
