McGeehan insists time-wasting is a mark of respect for Town

Saturday’s opponents York City were clearly keen to preserve their point from very early on, using delaying tactics from near enough the opening whistle.

However, rather than let himslelf get frustrated, McGeehan said: “I think it’s more of a credit to Luton Town that teams come here and know its a really tough place to come.

“They’re happy with a draw, so it’s a credit to us and the way teams are looking at us this season.

“I don’t think they offered much of a threat, they were very much sitting in and happy to have the ball in front of them.

“It shows that we’re some of the top boys in the league, so I don’t think it’s frustrating, but something we need to accept, move on and get on with trying to break it down.

“Sometimes the fans might get a little bit frustrated as we’re passing it and trying to keep it, but everyone has got to be a bit more patient and the goals will come.

“If they hadn’t scored, I think we’re winning that game two, three-nil in the end as we’d have ground them down eventually.”

Team-mate Alex Lawless was of a similar opinion to McGeehan and believes Luton will only get better the more they encounter teams who try and shut up shop.

He said: “The more they do it, the more we’re going to learn from it.

“The squad is equipped to deal with it I’m sure as the season goes on we’ll get better at breaking that down and getting some home victories.”
