The Hatters captain was absent from the 0-0 draw at York after his partner was in labour.

She gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday, with McNulty then back in the starting line-up at Cambridge on Saturday.

He said: “It was tough because there was a bit of messing round in the hospital.

“It was a slow labour and I was sitting there listening to the boys on the radio (against York) which was strange.

“I don’t like missing games, missing work, but sometimes you just can’t help it.

“It was a tough couple of days, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
