McNulty enjoying his crowd favourite status

Defender Steve McNulty is relishing becoming a crowd favourite with the Kenilworth Road crowd after an indifferent reception at the tail end of last season, writes Mark Wood.

The 29-year-old, who signed a new two-year deal, was even named supporters’ man of the match on Saturday, despite Town crushing an Arsenal XI 7-0.

He said: “When I came last year I got a mixed reception, but it doesn’t bother me to tell you the truth.

“It’s always nice if the crowd do like you, but you’re not going to be everyone’s cup of tea and not everyone’s going to think you are a good player.

“That’s why some players come here and fall by the wayside because they can’t deal with the expectations of the crowd, but that doesn’t bother me, I’m an experienced player.

“It’s always nice when they sing your name, so long may it continue.”
