The 30-year-old has made 68 appearances, scoring twice for Town since signing on a free transfer from Fleetwood Town in January 2013.

He won the last season’s Player of the Year award after starting every game for Hatters, while his one strike, a wonder volley against Southport, was voted goal of the season by Luton Town Supporters’ Club.

Manager John Still told the club’s official website: “Steve has been a tremendous asset for this football club since I have been here, both on and off the field.

“His performances last season at centre-half were colossal and I’m hoping for much more of the same from him next season and beyond.”

McNulty added: “I’ve had a good first year here and all I want to do now is kick on even further.

“I’m at a club that doesn’t want to stand still and the manager has done everything this summer to ensure we’ll give League Two a really good go.

“We’re in good shape and there’s much more strength in depth.

“I’m happy to be at Luton. Before I moved here I was considering packing football in altogether, but signing here has been the best thing I’ve ever done.”
