The 25-year-old was released by Premier League-bound AFC Bournemouth at the end of the season, and had various offer to consider.

Speaking to the News/Gazette on why he chose Kenilworth Road as his next home, he said: “Mainly it was just the ambition as having high ambitions is a positive thing for me.

“I don’t want to go somewhere that doesn’t have any ambitions or wants to be mediocre.

“The club is desperate to go forward and that’s good.”

On his new signing, boss Still admitted McQuoid was a player he had been aware of from an early age and believes he can flourish under his tutelage.

He added: “I know him going back to when he first went from Bournemouth to Millwall. He’s been one of those unfortunate people whose not been in the right place at the right time.

“But he’s a good player, he’s a creator of goals and a scorer of goals.

“He was one we really wanted to do something with and fortunately we’ve been able to do it.

“If we can get Josh firing on all cylinders, he is a very, very good player.”
