Mixed feelings for Tyler on return to Peterborough

The 38-year-old was given a superb ovation from the home fans at London Road, a place where he spent 15 years of his career, racking up 486 appearances.

Although beaten twice by Conor Washington and Marcus Maddison, Tyler pulled off a string of top saves to keep his side in the game, as he said: “Coming back for the first time was great, I got a great reception and I thank the Posh fans for that.

“I loved my time playing here, they were my first club professionally and I did get a little bit of banter, but I love it.

“I made a few saves and they’re singing my name, so I thank them all. It was a disappointing result, but personally I’m on a high.”

Tyler was also relieved with his own personal display coming after making two mistakes in the 3-0 defeat at Newport County the last time out.

The keeper also revealed he hadn’t expected to start, even due to his Posh connections, with Elliot Justham preferred during the last round at Crawley Town.

He added: “The gaffer kept it close to his chest all week and I only got told two days ago. I fully expected Elliot to play and I didn’t want to play under sentiment just because it was Peterborough United.

“I’m a Luton Town player now and I’m glad the gaffer kept faith in me because I did owe the team one.

“It was disappointing at Newport and I hold my hands up as I needed to put a performance in.

“It’s my job, I enjoy playing in goal, it’s what I’ve done for a lot of years.

“Making saves is what I do day in day out, so it’s nice to make a few saves and I’m just gutted about the result.”
