Town midfielder George Moncur admits he gets goosebumps whenever his song is chanted by the Hatters supporters.

Although there have been fewer chances for the Town fans to belt out the tune this term before the campaign was postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus, with the 26-year-old restricted to 17 appearances under former boss Graeme Jones, he still appreciates it getting an airing.

Moncur told the club's official YouTube site: “I’ve had a few songs, at Colchester, it was ‘George Moncur my Lord,’ I think.

“At Barnsley I just got slated, so I didn’t have one there, and Luton has been the best, especially in that stadium when it’s tight and everyone’s on top of you.

“It honestly does give you shivers and goosebumps as everyone’s singing the song and it’s about you, so there’s not much better or comes close to that.

“It’s great, because they want to see me play, so it’s nice to hear it.

“When you are playing it gets you going a bit too as you can hear everything at Kenilworth Road.”

It was the same for team-mate Harry Cornick, who has the Wham ditty ‘Last Christmas’ sung in his honour by the Town faithful.

He continued: “That’s nice, I get excited when Christmas comes around, as I know my song’s coming around.

“It’s nice to know the fans are on your side and the Luton fans have always been nice to me, always been complimentary.

“It does spur you on, on the pitch, as crazy as it sounds, when you hear your song being sung or you hear someone in the crowd, one single person shout your name, or give you a little bit of motivation from the side, as you hear everything when you’re playing.

“The fans have been great to me, it’s nice to get motivation and get support from fans at all times.”

Moncur certainly had his song sung bellowed out by the Kenilworth Road crowd back in December, when he netted a dramatic last-gasp winner against Wigan after coming off the bench.

Remembering the goal, he said: "It was brilliant, that was a big game as well considering the season, it was an important goal.

"I just remember the ball dropping and I know I’ve got good technique, so it was just make sure you don’t snatch at it, because few players in that situation could have just easily lashed it and it could go over the bar or wide.

"So I just remember focusing on the ball and stroking it in the bottom left hand corner, obviously after that, just go mad."

However, that strike is just behind his free kick against Portsmouth from the season beforehand, as once again, late in the game, he fired into the bottom corner to ensure Town defeated their promotion rivals 3-2 at a snowy Kenilworth Road.

The strike came in just his third appearance for the club after moving from Barnsley, as he said: "I’m always going to say the Portsmouth one, just for the pure fact of the moment in the game.

"It put us five points clear that night, so the significance of that goal and the timing, I don’t think you can top that goal, that would be my favourite one.

“It was the perfect way to introduce myself to a new team.

"I was just thankful for the chance to take it, I hadn’t really had that many this season, but it’s something I try to practice more and more to improve on different parts of the free kick.

“Five points is quite a good lead and after that game we went from strength to strength, we didn’t really drop many points, so it really gave us the springboard to go forward."

Finally, Moncur went on to score six times in his 14 appearances for Luton, with two coming as Town wrapped up the title at home to Oxford on the final day.

He added: "That was mad, I can remember the day so clearly as it was the last game of the season.

"I knew we were promoted, but I’d never had it before and there’s nothing better than having a gold medal around your neck.

"So I was happy and over the moon with that, it's a day I'll never forget.

"To score so early and then nick another one late on to secure the game, it couldn't have gone any better for myself and the team, so it was a great day."
