Luton midfielder George Moncur was happy to give another example of his goalscoring form when starting games for the Hatters at the weekend.

The 27-year-old netted the opener in the 1-0 FA Cup win against Reading, his 10th in 50 matches since arriving at Luton from Charlton in January 2019, moving him up to second in the club's scoring charts this term.

It was also Moncur's sixth strike from the 18 matches he has been begun for Luton, with his other four coming when introduced in the second period of fixtures.

He has now bagged 48 career goals since turning pro at Upton Park back in 2011, with a most prolific at Colchester United, when he managed 23 strikes during his two year spell.

On his ability in front of goal, Moncur said: "I believe in what I do and that’s one thing I can do, I’ve always been able to score goals from midfield.

"Every chance I get I’ll try and help the team by scoring more, so I’m really happy with how it’s been going and hopefully I can carry it on.

"It’s a good stat to have, but I’ve just got to keep trying to do the right thing."

When Moncur scores, they are often efforts for the scrapbook, with the weekend's no different.

Taking James Bree's high, hanging cross out of the air, he produced a wonderful cushioned side-footed volley beyond Royals keeper Luke Southwood with half an hour gone, to set up a fourth round tie against Chelsea.

Moncur added: "I didn’t see the ball until quite late, and I remember telling Sam (Nombe) just 'George’s ball' basically.

"He left it, so I rely on my technique in those situations, so thankfully it went in.

“I do think I’ve been blessed with a good technique, so I know in those areas when I get around the box, to shoot, or maybe assist someone else.

"But in that situation there was only one thing I could do and that was put it in the corner, so I'm really happy with that.

"I’ve played against Reading a lot this year, I even played against them in the Carabao Cup early stages, and they are a team that really have good players no matter who they bring in.

"We knew it was going to be a hard game and they’re always going to have chances as they've got good players, but thankfully we held on for the win."

Apart from Moncur's goal, one of the main reasons Town went through was the performance of keeper Simon Sluga, who made some superb stops, especially in the second half.

Moncur added: "He’s unreal Simon, I can go through everyone, but he made some real key saves at the right time.

"If that one went in at the end, it’s the last thing you need extra time and he was really good."
