Hatters midfielder George Moncur believes that football will be a far better place once the beautiful game is able to return after the coronavirus pandemic.

Moncur and the rest of his Luton team-mates have now not taken to the pitch for over two months, their last match coming at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, March 7.

Since then the campaign has been postponed indefinitely, with no-one knowing if and when it will restart, but once that time does come, the former Barnsley and West Ham player will relish every second.

He said: “Everything in life, it throws it at you, you’ve just got to take every day as it comes.

“There’s nothing better than playing football and nothing better than seeing your mates every day, but in the situation we are in, you’ve just got to stay strong every day, protected and just enjoy life because you never know what’s going to come.

“Who could have predicted this?

“It’s the biggest curveball I’ve seen, it’s not been heard of, it’s just the way it goes.

“I can’t wait to get back playing, whenever that may be, but every day’s a blessing.

“They’re doing the best job, it’s mad and amazing how many people that you can see, every Thursday they’re still clapping, it’s brought people closer together as well, I’ve noticed.

“Sometimes you walk down the street and you just say hello to people now whereas before you’d just turn a blind eye.

"I think it really does put life into perspective, but I think it will change the world in a way, and I think football once it is all better.

Football will be a better place as we’ll never take another minute on the pitch for granted.”

With Town's training ground off limits to Moncur and the rest of the squad, he admits it has been hard trying to stay fit during the lockdown, especially with outings for exercise limited by the government’s rules.

He continued: “It’s tough times but we’re positive.

“It’s a bit out of the ordinary what’s going on, but now it’s becoming more ordinary as we’re doing the same thing, trying to keep fit, I’m being kept busy too, painting a few fences.

“I took a bike home from the club when we first got locked down, so I do a bit of that in the morning and then I do a run.

“I’ve got a different couple of routes I go on, mix it up, a few days bike, couple of days I go for a run.

"It’s nice to just run around and see different things from inside your house.”

Moncur has been able to keep in touch with his Hatters team-mates over Zoom calls, but doesn’t have a clue when they might be able to see each other face-to-face at the Brache once more.

He added: "It’s lovely to see some of the boys faces, have a laugh and a joke with them, as I've not seen then for ages.

"It's nice to be part of a team again as we haven't been in for ages, have a chat and get the boys together and then go from there when we’ve got more information on the season.

"As at this moment in time we don’t really know what’s happening.

"We’ve just got to stay strong, stay positive every day, work hard and then when we get back and the chance to play football, it’s going to be the best feeling in the world.”
