Luton boss Nathan Jones confirmed that midfielder Joe Morrell is a doubt for tonight’s home clash against his former club Bristol City.

The 23-year-old, who has only made three starts and seven appearances in total since arriving from Ashton Gate in October, wasn’t in the squad for the 2-1 defeat at Reading on Boxing Day.

Jones admitted it is touch and go whether the Wales international, who spent seven years with the Robins, playing just six times, will make the game against his old team-mates, with James Bree also still unlikely to feature too, saying: “They’re doubts.

“Joe Morrell had a tight hamstring, he pulled out of training yesterday (Christmas Day), so there’s no risk in terms of that.”

Town take on a Robins side who have struggled after winning their opening four league games of the campaign.

They ended a run of three straight defeats beating Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 on Boxing Day, but have lost five from their last eight matches to sit ninth in the table.

On the test ahead of them, Jones added: “Every game is tough and it’s no different.

"Every test is different, but the actual magnitude of each test is not because you play against different shapes, against different threats.

"These (Reading) have got real, real threats but we negated lots of that.

"We got done with a counter attack as we were open and we gave the ball away, and it was a set-play and that’s the reality of it.

"We can get punished at this level, but we’re a match for anyone at the level, it’s just I want to do more than match them, I wouldn’t mind us actually taking three points off these teams.”
