Mr Ed hopes he’s forced his way into boss’s plans

REINVIGORATED full-back Ed Asafu-Adjaye is hoping he’s done enough in the last couple of games to force his way into manager Gary Brabin’s plans for the play-offs, writes Mark Wood.

Town travel to Wales tonight to take on Wrexham in the first leg and the graduate from Luton’s youth system is hoping his performances, in an out of position left-back, have convinced Brabin that he’s the man for the job following Freddie Murray’s knee ligament injury which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

He said: “This is the most important part of the season for Luton Town Football Club.

“I’m very happy that I’ve been able to be given the opportunity.

“I think I’ve taken the chance to put myself back into the field and the mix for possible selection.”

The youngster from Stevenage may have had to swap flanks from right to left-back, but he believes he has adapted well.

He continued: “It’s a different position for me. I’ve only played there a handful of times.

“Especially second half at Histon and the last game against Wrexham on Saturday I’ve felt quite at home in that position. I felt I’ve had a couple of good games there.

“I’ve been given me an opportunity to show what I can do and I feel I’ve had a couple of good games.

“The plan at Histon was to get me out and get me match fit so that if something like this happens (his recall from the loan and injury to Murray) and it’s stood me in good stead.”

Speaking on Sunday, he had no idea if he would be involved, but said: “I’ve got no indication yet. I’ve got a few days training before that.

“I will train my best and hopefully in the next couple of games show I’m the right person in that position on Thursday night.”

But he doesn’t believe either side will have learned much about the other following Saturday’s 1-1 draw between the two clubs at Kenilworth Road.

Wrexham fielded an entirely second string XI, while Town’s side contained only a smattering of players who are likely to figure tonight.

Asafu-Adjaye said: “There were numerous changes for both sides for a couple of reasons - tactical reasons and to rest people’s legs up and keep everybody ready. Everybody should be ready for Thursday evening.”

And although he believes tonight’s result is massively important, he is confident the Hatters can see themselves home at Kenilworth Road no matter what position they find themselves in.

He said: “I think it’s massive (tonight). The last year and a half we’ve had two two-legged games and I think in both of them we’ve learned how important it is to get a result in the first one away from home.

“Saying that we are good enough at home to create any team problems and get any result we deserve.”

And he urged Town’s travelling army of supporters to roar them on, adding: “If we can take a good following up there we will have that 12th man and hopefully we can take a 12th man to Eastlands.”
