Murray impressed with Town’s reaction

DEFENDER Freddie Murray was delighted with his side’s response to drawing with Kettering in midweek as they cruised to a 6-0 thrashing of Southport at the weekend, writes Mike Simmonds.

Murray netted the third goal in the rout, his first as a professional, and said: “It was a great day because I didn’t play during the week against Kettering but I thought we were a bit disappointed even though we drew.

“So I was looking for a reaction and we needed it. We’ve got a tough week coming up, we need to cement our place in the play-offs.

“Everybody knows that, it’s not 100 per cent yet, so we need to get that done and dusted. It was a big three points and the confidence it should breed going into the week should stand us in good stead.”

Murray was back in the side after missing the 2-2 draw with the Poppies on Tuesday night and manager Gary Brabin insisted he is an important part of the team.

He said: “I think he is a great player, very solid and I wanted to get him straight back in the side as soon as possible.

“I thought he has done okay and will only get better when he gets fitter too. I think he’ll be pleased to get on the scoresheet.”
