Neilson happy as Town see off Gills

Assistant boss Alan Neilson was delighted with the 1-0 victory for the development side over Gillingham on Tuesday afternoon, writes Mike Simmonds.

Alex Lacey’s first half header separated the two teams in the behind-closed-doors clash played at the club’s training ground. He said: “We created plenty of chances in the first half and could have been 4-1 up at half time.

“We missed some decent chances and they just flew across goal. It was a good performance, and we dug in at the end to ensure the win.”

Winger Dan Walker was a constant threat throughout, giving watching manager Paul Buckle further food for thought.

Neilson said: “We all know how good Dan can be and we are working very hard with him now.

“He was very dangerous, particularly on the right hand side, and was unlucky not to score when hit the post.”

Teenage defender Tinashe Chabata also impressed alongside Alex Lacey as they kept a clean sheet, with Neilson adding: “Tinashe is only 16 and is a good prospect for us.

“He knows he needs to work on his heading, so playing in games like this will only help.”
