New Hatters boss will have a League One squad at his disposal

Hatters chief executive Gary Sweet insists that whoever is appointed as the club’s next manager will have a League One squad at his disposal.

Previous boss John Still made a host of big name additions in the summer, with the likes of Craig Mackail-Smith, Danny Green, Paddy McCourt, Scott Cuthbert and Magnus Okuonghae just five of the signings.

Although Still was relieved of his duties after struggling to mount a promotion push, Sweet believes the next manager will only benefit as he said: “We’ve got a League One squad, we bought a League One squad.

“It’s about pulling them together, getting the partnerships right and settling them down, inspiring them, motivating them, and getting that mix.

“I’ve used this saying before, I love chocolate and I love caviar, but I’d never put them on the same plate, that might give you a bit of a bitter taste.

“Sometimes you might do all the right things, introduce all the right ingredients, but it just doesn’t work.

“We’ve got to find how that works because the ingredients are certainly right.

“Also if we can create an environment where a manager can stay for a prolonged period, then that would be good for us.”
